A grounding mat only works if your wall outlet has a live earth connection. Many countries, older buildings, and specific outlet types do not. Check yours before you buy.
How to count outlet pins

3 holes = earthed
The round or D-shaped third hole is the earth port. Grounding products plug into this hole.

2 holes = not earthed
No earth connection. Grounding mat will not work. Requires earthing rod or electrician.
